I just got into using GameMaker recently, and my background is web development and C , and for game dev I have only used Unity and Flash so the way GameMaker organizes it's code and objects was familiar yet different. Studying a book will only help so much, just like watching tutorials will only help so much. So this book talks about the history of video games, where video games are going, how to get started in developing video games, as well as creating your first mini-game. I feel like I'm starting like a complete beginner every time I use the software. GameMaker: Studio For Dummies provides complete and accurate information on how to create classic games and special effects, written in the characteristically easy-to-read Dummies style. I really look forward to future tutorials from you, will be waiting eagerly! Just re-watching tutorials on YouTube over and over? I am still shaking after finishing this book. Some great mentions in this thread. There is too much knowledge to put into one book when talking about developing your own video games. Tom Francis's series is great for that, since he moves fairly slow and explains every single thing he does as he does it. Most of the time these books just dump a ton of concepts and very little examples.
